Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, also recognized as the Rudra Mantra, relates to Lord Bholenath. There is a mention of this mantra in the Rigveda. Its meaning can be divided into three parts – "Maha" (Great) + "Mrityu" (Death) + "Jaya" (Victory). Thus, it signifies the “Victory over Death.” When the individual chants this mantra with purity of their thoughts, it leads to a happy, balanced, and harmonious life. Chanting this mantra also helps gain good health, abundance, and prosperity.
Thus, if you have been facing unnecessary fears, negative energies, and seeking good fortune, peace of mind, and spiritual growth, then conducting the Mahamrityunjaya Puja is highly beneficial and valuable. This Puja also leads to attracting the divine blessings of Lord Shiva, who nurtures all the living beings.
Perform the self-practice or meditate to refine your inner soul. On the Puja Day, in the morning, after taking a bath, light a Ghee lamp, and worship Lord Shiva to let him accept your prayers. If possible, observe the fast; and if it is not possible, then at least have the Sattvik meals and avoid onion, garlic, or any tamasic food. Seek blessings from Lord Bholenath for a prosperous, harmonious, and fulfilling life.
Considering the Vedic Astrology, the Mahamrityunjaya Puja can be performed in a day, but the process can be completed in various steps or stages. The most essential requirement is to chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra – “ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्” and Lord Shiva Mantras as per the requirement of the individual’s Horoscope. Pandit Ji takes the oath in the “Shubh Muhurta” before the idols and recites the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra along with his fellow priests, citing the individual’s name, their father’s name, and their Gotra.
The other details required are the individual’s wish or Sankalpa from this Puja, and any other additional information. The priest will take all the details and start worshiping, considering the individual’s Sankalp. They will perform the Homam (Havan) with the Puja Samagri or materials. At the end of the Puja, Pandit Ji will follow the process of “Sankalp Purti,” leading to the Puja completion.
